How to Promote Your Website Online

Digital Marketing

The internet is saturated with websites, all for various purposes and serving different needs. After you’ve made sure your website stands out and fulfills the needs of your customers, it’s time to begin the promotional process. Today we’re explaining a few different ways to promote your website online and reach broader audiences.

Ways to Promote

There are two common ways to promote your site on the web: organically and through paid advertisements. Organic promotion requires more effort but is typically available at little to no upfront cost. Paid marketing is often less demanding of your time and instead leverages your resources. Most companies use a mix of both paid and organic methods to advertise their site.

Paid Promotion

Paid marketing is available in many different forms, including search engine ads (Google, Bing, Yahoo!, etc.), social media ads (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and press releases. Each platform offers access to its own advertising interface, with specific features to accommodate their unique users. Figure out where your target audience spends their time online, and find ways to advertise there.

Google AdWords is a great place to start and is easy for new business owners to learn. On social media, many companies begin by promoting via Facebook, with paid messaging that is tailored to their consumer. Once you’ve learned how to promote on one or two platforms, branch out and expand your reach.

Press releases are another valuable form of paid advertising. Designed to quickly distribute updates and breaking news, these are a great way to reach audiences from around the globe.

Organic Promotion

Organic marketing refers to the kind of promotion that occurs more naturally. By simply creating social media profiles across multiple platforms, your brand will appear in different places on the web, with traffic driving back to your website. It’s important to keep these accounts updated, so users know you’re active and available to meet their needs.

Another way to organically promote your site is by establishing good Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practices. SEO helps your company’s name appear in relevant search results, which guides consumers to your website. Search engines regularly review or “crawl” websites to find and verify any accurate and useful information that may be available. When the content on your webpages or blog proves beneificial, it will appear higher in search results.
